LAKE DELTON (WKOW) -- Lake Delton police say a three-year-old from Illinois succumbed to her injuries Tuesday night after being hit by a car in the Hotel Rome parking lot shortly after 4:30 p.m. that day.

According to a release from Chief Daniel Hardman, witnesses and hotel staff performed CPR on the girl before police and first responders got there.

The child was airlifted to the hospital, but later died.

Authorities say the girl is from the Chicago suburb of Bensenville.

The driver involved in the collision is identified as a 47-year old woman.

Law enforcement sources tell 27 News preliminary assessments of the driver's speed, sobriety, and attention indicate no driving violations, or criminal actions in connection to the parking lot incident.  They say it appears the child darted out, and there was insufficient reaction time to avoid the collision.

Lake Delton Police and the Wisconsin State Patrol's reconstruction unit continue an investigation.

Mt. Olympus owns Hotel Rome, and the lodging is on the resort's property.  The company sent a statement saying "everyone at Mt. Olympus Resort is sending thoughts and prayers to the family."
