CC Sabathia pitched his first National League complete game and pinch-hitter Craig Counsell hit a game-winning sacrifice fly to help the Milwaukee Brewers avoid a sweep with a 3-2 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday.
Sabathia (2-0) allowed a sacrifice fly by David Ross in the second and one by Adam Dunn in the third, but shut down Cincinnati the rest of the way. From the fourth inning on, he struck out nine, including the side in the top of the ninth. He walked one. He also homered in the game.
The Brewers head into the All-Star break a half game behind St. Louis for the wild card lead. The Brewers are five games behind the first place Cubs.
