Richland Center reacts to national spotlight

RICHLAND COUNTY (WKOW) -- Construction crews and volunteers have taken over a home in rural Richland Center to help build a new home in just one week.

And Good news gets around in Richland Center, population 5200.

From the donut shop to the art gallery to the cafe, the buzz on the streets and in the shops is - Is Shelly Anders really gonna win?

We've been wondering," Jennifer Hazlik says.  "We talked about it yesterday.  I have a friend, but she wouldn't tell."

"We knew Shelly was in the running," Jan Sabin says.  "I'm a retired teacher.  I taught in the same school."

When Shelly did win, people here loved it.

Kim Cory's son is good friends with Shelly's kids.

"She's a great girl wonderful, really deserving," Cory says.

And at the donut shop, the owner says news is about as sweet as the chocolate donut - their specialty.

Shelly also seemed to cross generations. We found a thrilled mother and daughter combo.

"It's awesome, I'm really excited for them," Ellie and Julie Teckham say.  "They're very deserving. I was just watching that show. It's exciting it's someone I know."

Someone they know about to get a big helping hand.
