LAKE DELTON (WKOW) -- The state Dept. of Transportation started construction this week on a $1.08 million coffer dam across the channel Lake Delton carved out when it drained into the Wisconsin River last month.
The emergency coffer dam will redirect the flowing water to the existing dam, so the channel can be repaired. When the water created the channel, it also washed out a 370 ft. section of County Road A. State crews can't begin rebuilding the road until the area under it is dry.
"We're working very hard on this," said DOT project manager Bill Olivia. "Things are moving along briskly. We're hoping to see a lot of progress in the coming months."
DOT crews hope to finish the coffer dam by September and rebuild the section of County Road A by December. The state plans to refill the lake by next spring.
