JANESVILLE (WKOW) -- From City of Janesville:
On August 5, the Janesville City Council named Jay Winzenz as Acting City Manager for the City. Jay will hold the position of Acting City Manager effective September 6, 2008 while the Council continues its search for a permanent replacement for retiring City Manager Steve Sheiffer.
Currently, Jay serves as Administrative Services Director at the City of Janesville. Jay has worked for the City since 1988 and has held several positions, including Assistant Operations Director, Management Assistant and Housing, Building and Neighborhood Services Director. Jay has a Masters Degree in Public Administration from the University of Kansas.
Jay's contract will be for six months or until a new city manager is in place, whichever comes first.
As acting city manager, Jay will be the City's Chief Executive and will be responsible for the implementation of the City Council's policies and priorities. This is accomplished by coordinating the official business of the City Council and by providing leadership and direction to the entire organization.
City Council President Amy Loasching explains, "Jay has a background in public administration and has demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities. The Council and I believe he will effectively serve the community."
