Year after year, people in Reedsburg rally around the city's sports teams. And now, with so many people facing hard times after the floods, the young athletes are giving back.
Dozens of Reedsburg students hosted a flood relief fund on the city's north side. After a rousing kick off by the high school marching band, families had the chance to participate in several fun activities...playing basketball, jumping on a huge inflatable slide, trying their luck at a dunk tank, and watching Reedsburg take on Middleton in an amateur baseball playoff game.
"It's not the amount of money that we raise, but the sense of teaching our children that are in the youth program what it means to give back to the community," said Del Scanlon, who runs Reedsburg Sports Network.
More than 80 items were donated for a silent auction as well.
Organizers said they wanted to have a fundraiser, knowing the money donated would go to local families, and not to people hundreds of miles away.
All proceeds will benefit people in Reedsburg, La Valle, North Freedom, and Rock Springs. If you'd like to donate to the flood relief fund, go to http://www.reedsburgsports.net
