La Crosse (WKOW) -- A home improvement contractor has been arrested and charged in Eau Claire County with identity theft and theft by false representation.
According to the criminal complaint filed by the Eau Claire County District Attorney's Office, Timothy D. Mueller, while operating under the name of Advanced Home Tech and Custom Creations, allegedly encouraged customers for windows and doors to fill out a credit application-"to see if they were eligible" for financing. Customers later discovered that credit cards had been issued under their names without their permission and charges made on those credit cards by Mueller for doors and windows.
Mueller is a former employee of the Advance Home Technologies home improvement company in Clintonville and is alleged to have also used that company's name and identity without permission.
Mueller may have conducted business in many parts of the state. The investigation is continuing by the Wisconsin Office of Privacy Protection and the Eau Claire Police Department. Anyone believing they may have been a victim is encouraged to call the Consumer Protection Bureau's hotline at 1-800-422-7128 to file a complaint.
