MADISON (WKOW) -- State Superintendent Elizabeth Burmaster will introduce her 2009-2011 education budget proposal during her annual State of Education address at noon, Thursday, Sept. 18, in the State Capitol.
The Department of Public Instruction biennial budget includes aid to school districts and represents a major portion of Wisconsin budgetary expenditures.
Dan Nerad, superintendent of Madison Metropolitan School District, will give the welcome for
the State of Education program. The University of Wisconsin-Madison Brass Quintet will provide music.
Chelsea Shurilla of Menomonee Falls High School and 2008-09 Badger Girls State Superintendent, will lead the pledge of allegiance. Jonathan Overby, lyric baritone and host for Wisconsin Public Radio's "Higher Ground," will sing the national anthem.
Ben Bedore, 2008-09 Badger Boys State Superintendent, will introduce Burmaster. He is a student at Homestead High School in the Mequon-Thiensville School District.
The Wisconsin National Guard will provide a color guard for the program.
Following Burmaster's State of Education address, she will present Friends of Education awards
and introduce the 2008 elementary school, middle/junior high school, high school, and special services Teachers of the Year.
