Madison (WKOW) -- from Wisconsin Sports Development Corporation: The Wisconsin Sports Development Corporation (WSDC) awarded $375 to two local community centers: Kennedy Heights Community Center and Bayview Community Center Monday.
The centers brought the most participants to the Fit Kids Challenge Fun Run and Celebration.
The money must be used for physical education programming.
WSDC also be awarded a third place prize of $100 to the Wisconsin Youth and Family Center.
The Fit Kids Challenge is a free program aimed at keeping kids fit over the summer months.
It culminates in the Fit Kids Fun Run and Celebration taking place along side the Ford Ironman Wisconsin event weekend.
WSDC announced it would make a cash donation to the Dane County community center with the most participation in the Fun Run, a free event that took place Saturday, September 6, 2008.
Bayview, Kennedy Heights (Girls Inc) and Wisconsin Youth and Family (Girls Inc group) Centers responded with the numbers on event day and will be awarded the funds for their physical activity programming.
"Girls Inc. at the YWCA of Madison plans to use our prize money to help us offer research-based Girls Inc. curricula to the girls we serve. We had a great time at the Fit Kids Run and appreciate this prize and recognition," said Martha Lemnus, Girls Inc. Director.
"We've have great support from our sponsors for this program," said Jordan Bingham, Director of Health Initiatives for the Wisconsin Sports Development Corporation. "Presenting sponsor Group Health Cooperative has been an exemplary partner in both supporting and helping us promote the program. It is because of caring partners such as them that we are able to give back to the community so they can continue their efforts throughout the year."
