Wisconsin health group to encourage women to take free birth control pills
The controversial new ads will start running in Wisconsin campus newspapers next month.
They offer a blunt message: "Free birth control is only a phone call away."
The ads will run courtesy of the Family Planning Health Services group based in Wausau. The ads will hit most Wisconsin colleges and universities, including the UW, Whitewater, Platteville, Beloit, and Ripon.
The birth control is free courtesy of the Family Medicaid Waiver Program, for which virtually all college students qualify.
Conservative groups are up in arms against the plan. The Wisconsin Family Council called is shameful.
"Encouraging young people to engage in unhealthy activities is wrong," said the council's executive director.
