Group files IRS complaint against Wisconsin church

WEST BEND, Wis. (AP) -- A group that wants politics and religion kept separate has filed a complaint with the Internal Revenue Service against a West Bend church.

The group says Pastor Luke Emrich was wrong to tell parishioners at the New Life Church he would vote for John McCain because of the Republican's anti-abortion stance.

Emrich was one of at least six pastors Sunday who defied a tax rule saying churches that endorse candidates risk losing their tax-exempt status.

The pastors argue the rule infringes on free speech.

Americans United for Separation of Church and State says the pastors violated the law and must accept the consequences.

The IRS says it "will monitor the situation and take action as appropriate."
