Building that housed strip club goes to charity

JANESVILLE, Wis. (AP) -- A Janesville building that used to house a strip club has been donated to a local nonprofit as part of a plea deal.

The building used to be the site of Screamin' Mee-Mees.

But police raided it last year and arrested James and Rebecca Halbach, who were accused of running a house of prostitution.

James R. Halbach of Orfordville pleaded no contest Tuesday to misdemeanor disorderly conduct, and the prosecutor agreed not to press charges against his wife.

In exchange Halbach donated the building to the 12 & 12 Drop In Center, which supports recovering alcoholics.

Halbach's attorney says the donation was Halbach's way of giving back to the community.

Brian Boyle of 12 & 12 says his group doesn't care about the building's past.

He says he's just grateful for the gift.
