Update on Town of Roxbury shooting

Madison (WKOW) -- from Dane Co. Sheriff:  On Sunday at approximately 3:30 am, Dane County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to 7554 USH 12 in the town of Roxbury where 30-year-old Douglas D. Deviney had been shot multiple times following a violent domestic incident.

The investigation by Dane County detectives has determined that 30-year-old Brian Butler attempted to intervene when he witnessed Mr. and Mrs. Deviney in a physical altercation at their home.

In the process, Butler was also physically battered by Mr. Deviney.

Both Butler and the female victim in the situation left the residence and retreated to the Butler residence.

A short time later, Mr. Deviney arrived at Butler's home.

When Mr. Deviney entered Butler's home, Butler, in an attempted to defend himself, shot Deviney three times with a .9 mm handgun.

Deviney who remains hospitalized is tentatively being charged with one count of Battery, one count of Domestic Battery, and one count of Strangulation.

The Dane County District Attorney's Office continues to review the actions of Mr. Butler to determine what charges he may face.
