Madison (WKOW) -- from MMSD: Student enrollment in the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) for the 2008-09 school year is 24,540 according to the official enrollment count conducted on the third Friday in September, as required by state law.
The number represents a decrease of three students, compared to last year's enrollment.
However, this figure exceeds the district's most recent projected student count: 24,437.
The total enrollment is 103 more students, exceeding the projection by four-tenths of one percent (0.4%).
In comparison to last year, the number of elementary students (grades K-5) is up 403 - to 11,669.
There are 77 fewer middle school students - to 5,181 (gr. 6-8), but an increase of 208 high school students - to 7,690 (gr. 9-12).
This is the 8th straight year that Madison enrollment has been between 24 and 25-thousand students.
