Stoughton (WKOW) -- The Dane County Sheriff's Crime Scene Unit and the County Coroner closed Lake Kegonsa State Park in Stoughton on Monday night while they investigated a body found there Monday afternoon.
A park ranger found the body Monday around 6:00 pm about 100 yards from a main trail and several hundred yards from the main park entrance parking lot and restroom.
Coroner John Stanely told 27 News the body was in a heavily wooded area.
The coroner's office brought search equipment to the park at around midnight Tuesday morning, but called off any investigation or recovery efforts until Tuesday morning because of the darkness.
The entire park is closed down while officials investigate.
Stanley says he hasn't approached the body yet because of the darkness and doesn't have any details about gender, how long it's been in the woods, or cause of death.
UPDATE (10/14 2:52 p.m.): The body found at Lake Kegonsa State Park was likely the body of an adult male.
The body is likely not Caucasion.
Officials say the body looks like it was there for months - but less than one year.
