One arrest in Madison elderly abuse case

Madison (WKOW) -- from Madison PD:  Sunday evening, around 9:56 p.m., Madison Police were summoned to a residence just off of Packers Avenue.

At the location officers learned an 82-year old man had been punched several times in the head the night prior while he was inside his own home.

The victim said he had recently rented a room to 41-year-old Cruz Banuelos.

Banuelos was also buying food for the victim, and helping him prepare meals.

The victim says on Saturday night, around 10:00 p.m., he asked Banuelos to turn down the television so he could go to bed.

He says this erupted into a fight, one where he was both chocked and punched.

During the attack, the victim's eyeglass frame was bent, and one of its lenses popped out.

The victim says Banuelos also threatened to kill him.

After the battery, the victim says the suspect unplugged the phones so that he could not immediately call police.

Banuelos was arrested and tentatively charged with Domestic Battery to an Elderly Person, Intimidation of a Victim/Witness, and Domestic Disorderly Conduct.
