Melvin plans to name manager within 2 weeks

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Milwaukee Brewers GM Doug Melvin wants a new manager in place by the time he heads for the general managers' meeting in two weeks.

Melvin says he will have conducted four to five face-to-face interviews by the time a new manager is named.

Manager Ned Yost was fired with 12 games to go in the Brewers season and replaced on an interim basis with coach Dale Sveum.

Melvin told Sveum he's out of the running for the manager's job because he doesn't have the experience the Brewers are looking for.

On WTMJ radio Tuesday, Melvin again expressed interest in keeping Sveum on the coaching staff.

Melvin says he talked to Sveum yesterday about Sveum's career.

Sveum has said in the past remaining on the coaching staff would be too awkward.
