Four charged with conspiracy to commit armed bank robberies

Madison (WKOW) -- from US Dept. of Justice:  Corey J. Thomas, 28, Madison, Prince P. Beck, 25, Madison, Jarrell A. Murray, 23, Chicago, and Lamar Liggons, 21, Chicago, are charged in a four-count indictment with conspiracy to commit armed bank robberies; the robbery of Bank Mutual on Odana Road in Madison on May 9, 2008; the robbery of US Bank in the Town of Blooming Grove, Wis. on May 21, 2008; and with using a firearm, a semi-automatic pistol with an extended magazine, during a crime of violence on May 21, 2008.

  The indictment also alleges that the four men, and a co-conspirator not charged in the indictment, conducted surveillance of Bank Mutual in Middleton, Wis. on May 19, 2008, in preparation for a possible robbery of the bank.

  If convicted, each man faces a maximum penalty of five years in federal prison on the conspiracy charge, 25 years on each bank robbery charge, and seven years to be served consecutive to any other prison time on the using a firearm during a crime of violence charge.

  The charges against them are the result of an investigation by the Dane County Sheriff's Department, the Madison Police Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Chicago Fugitive Task Force and the U.S. Marshals Service.

  The prosecution of this case has been assigned to Assistant U.S. Attorney Elizabeth Altman and First Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen P. Sinnott.
