Mother of slain teen pleads with media on evidence
Sergei Carlson was sentenced to life in prison, with the possibility of parole
FARGO, N.D. (AP) -- The mother of a Fargo teenager who was killed by her brother is pleading with news organizations not to report on sensitive information in the case.
Sixteen-year-old Sergei Carlson of Wisconsin was sentenced to life in prison, with the possibility of parole, for killing 16-year-old Whitney Carlson in her Fargo home last year. He pleaded guilty charges of to murder and a deviate sexual act.
The Carlsons' mother, Penny Ripplinger, says some reporters have asked for such evidence as crime scene photos and the 911 call she made to authorities.
Ripplinger says using that information would exploit her daughter's death "for the sake of selling newspapers and gaining listeners to your airwaves."
