MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- A new report says the aging of the University of Wisconsin System work force will present a major challenge for the state in the next several years.
The report says one out of three UW System faculty and academic staff members is 55 or older, compared with one out of five 10 years ago.
The report warns the demographics will lead to a high number of retirements.
It says the trend is expected to hit other universities and intensify competition for talented employees to fill the openings.
The UW System Board of Regents is expected to discuss the report at a meeting in Madison on Thursday.
No action is expected, but the regents will consider the issue when recommending how much to increase pay for employees next month.
