Madison (WKOW) -- The Madison police told 27 News that they are looking into the death of an unidentified male found in Lake Edge Park overnight.
The body was found by a person walking through the park just before 11p.m. Monday night.
Police say the death appears to be suspicious and are investigating.
Update (11/04 10:10am): Detectives have now determined the deceased to be a 37-year-old male.
They also believe he had gotten into a fight - at the park - with a person who was known to him.
The MPD is in contact with that person.
An autopsy will be held Tuesday to determine the cause of death, and at this time it is being classified by the Madison Police Department as suspicious.
It will be up to the Dane County Coroner to determine the cause of death, and to release the name of the deceased following notification of his family.
Update (11/04 1:45pm): Investigators have determined the "passerby" is actually an acquaintance of both parties involved in the fight.
After hearing of the altercation this person went to investigate, found the deceased, and contacted the MPD.
Detectives have also determined the two men involved in the fight had been socializing and drinking with a woman in the park.
The two men got into an argument, which escalated into a fight.
During the struggle the suspect battered the victim, then left with the woman.
He is going to be taken into custody on a parole hold Police reports will be forwarded to the Dane County District Attorney for a charging decision.
46-year-old Michael Volz has been arrested on a Parole Hold.
The District Attorney will determine what charges will be made in this death investigation.
Update (11/04 2:30pm): The Dane County Coroner's Office has released the name of the man found dead last night at Lake Edge Park in the City of Madison.
He is identified as 37-year-old Mark Gregory Johnson of Madison.
The Coroner has ruled the Manner of Death as a Homicide.
Preliminary autopsy findings confirm that Johnson died as the result of multiple head and chest trauma sustained in a physical attack by another person.
The death remains under investigation by the City of Madison Police Department and Dane County Coroner's Office.
