PORTAGE, Wis. (AP) -- An Army veteran is accused of killing his fiancee after a gun he was handling went off.
Twenty-five-year-old Jason Hardt of Portage has been charged with homicide by intoxicated use of a weapon with a domestic-abuse enhancer.
The criminal complaint says he told police the .357-caliber revolver went off accidentally as he put a bullet in and out of it.
Twenty-five-year-old Rebecca Weisenberger was hit in the head.
The complaint says the couple lived together and had been drinking and playing cards when the accident happened early Sunday.
Defense attorney Christopher Van Wagner says Hardt served five years in the Army National Guard, including 2 1/2 years in Kuwait and Qatar.
