Toys for Tots campaign kicks off

MADISON (WKOW) -- A Southern Wisconsin holiday tradition began again Thursday: Toys for Tots, and once again, WKOW is joining with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve and the Salvation Army to collect toys for thousands of area kids who might not get presents otherwise.

The 2008 campaign got underway in the aisles of Toys 'R' Us. Our mission: Collect $5,000 worth of stuff donated by the store.

As always, Toys for Tots relies on your generosity.

You can drop-off new, unwrapped toys at some 300 locations in our area.

The more toys we get, the more children we can surprise and the busier the marines will be.

Last year, we handed out toys to some 11,000 children in our area.

You can also help with all the counting and sorting by becoming a toys for tots volunteer.

To volunteer, call the marines at 241-2022.

To receive toys, you need to register with the Salvation Army and to do that by calling 250-2245. The deadline to register is Sunday, November 23.

Toys will be given out at the Alliant Energy Center December 17-20.
