UPDATE: Inmate who attacked guards killed officers

FOX LAKE, Wis. (AP) -- An inmate with a claw hammer has injured two officers at Fox Lake Correctional Institution.

  Department of Corrections spokesman John Dipko says the inmate attacked one corrections officer in the prison's furniture shop about 8:15 a.m. Monday.

  A second officer came to the rescue and also was hurt.

  Dipko says both officers needed medical attention.

  A third employee was finally subdued the inmate, who was moved to another prison and put in segregation.

  Dipko says an investigation is underway and Fox Lake Correctional Institution remains under lock down.

  He says inmate had worked in the furniture shop for two years.


Update (11/11 7:25am):  FOX LAKE, Wis. (AP) -- The Fox Lake prison inmate accused of attacking two guards with a claw hammer was serving time for killing two police officers.

  State corrections officials say 50-year-old Terrance Davis attacked the guards Monday in the prison's furniture shop.

  Both guards needed medical attention and one was sent to the hospital.

  Davis was convicted in the shooting deaths of Milwaukee police officers Rosario Collura and Leonard Lesnieski Davis served 10 years in an out-of-state prison before he was transferred to Fox Lake in 2003.

  Fox Lake Correctional Institution is a medium security facility for adult offenders, located on 85 acres west of Waupun.
