Brewers closer Salomon Torres retires

Brewers pitcher Salomon Torres is retiring from baseball.

A news release from the team says the 36-year-old reliever wants to spend more time with his family and faith. The retirement was first reported Tuesday on the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Web site.

Torres was a veteran of 12 major league seasons, playing for San Francisco, Seattle, Montreal, Pittsburgh and the past season as mostly a closer for Milwaukee. His career record is 44-58 with a 4.31 ERA and 57 saves in 497 appearances, including 64 starts.

He is coming off one of his best seasons in the majors, going 7-5 with a 3.49 ERA and a career-high 28 saves in 71 relief appearances.
