Wis. Democrats name Madison's Pocan to budget committee
MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- State Rep. Mark Pocan will serve as a co-chair of the Legislature's powerful Joint Finance Committee.
Assembly Speaker Mike Sheridan, a Janesville Democrat, named Pocan to the post Thursday. Pocan is a Democrat from Madison.
Sen. Mark Miller, a Monona Democrat, has been serving as the other co-chair.
The finance committee revises the governor's budget before forwarding it to the full Legislature for approval. Its work on the upcoming 2009-2011 budget looks tough -- Gov. Jim Doyle has said the state faces a $5 billion deficit.
