Recount in Wisconsin Assembly race to start Monday

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- State election officials have ordered a recount in a central Wisconsin Assembly race.

According to election night results, Republican Keith Ripp of Lodi defeated Democrat Trish O'Neil of Columbus by 28 votes for an open seat in the 47th Assembly District.

O'Neil filed a petition with the Government Accountability Board on Thursday asking for a recount.

The petition alleges mistakes were made in every ward during vote counting.

It doesn't elaborate but says mistakes were made in absentees ballots, vote-counting machines didn't properly count markings on ballots and other "irregularities" in election conduct.

O'Neil and Ripp both declined comment.

Clerks in Columbia, Dane and Sauk counties must begin the recount Monday.
