Habitat for Humanity blesses six more homes in Dane County
SUN PRAIRIE (WKOW) -- Six families in our area this weekend will have a new home to call their own. Habitate for Humanity Dane County was busy blessing newly completed homes, including four Saturday morning in Sun Prairie.
Homes in Deerfield and Madison's Twin Oaks neighborhood were also blessed this weekend.
Organizers say in these tough economic times, they make sure to spend a solid six months preparing the new residents how to budget in their move from a renting lifestyle to one of home ownership.
"So they take lawn maintenance classes, they take home improvement classes, and they are in those first six months, really preparing themselves for being a homeowner," said Cheryl McCollum with Habitat Dane County.
The new homeowners include a family from Cambodia, and another in need of a wheelchair-accessible house.
Out of 144 homes built to date in Dane County, McCollum said only one fell into foreclosure
