Plea, sentencing hearing set in toilet corpse case

MAUSTON, Wis. (AP) -- A woman accused of helping her religious leader hide a decaying corpse on her toilet for weeks is set to enter a plea and be sentenced Monday.

Prosecutors have accused 36-year-old Tammy Lewis and 58-year-old Alan Bushey of hiding 90-year-old Magdeline Alvina Middlesworth's body on a toilet in Lewis' Necedah home. Investigators say Middlesworth and Lewis both were members of a religious sect Bushey led.

A criminal complaint says Bushey told Lewis that God would revive Middlesworth. Investigators believe both of them wanted to collect Middlesworth's Social Security.

Lewis faces more than 35 years behind bars. Her attorney, Dan Berkos, has been working on plea bargain with prosecutors.

Bushey faces a host of charges, too. He's due in court in April.
