UPDATE: Wednesday (11/19/08) 3:55 p.m.

The Dane County Coroner's office says the man responsible in Tuesday's shooting on Madison's west side, has died.

36-year old Ryan Dutter died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Wednesday afternoon at University of Wisconsin hospital.

He's accused of shooting and killing his 12-year old son, Kyle Dutter.

Madison (WKOW) -- Police found the father and son shot, but alive, inside a black SUV near Haen Family Park and High Point Road.

  The boy later died.

The boy's father is still in the hospital with what appear to be self-inflicted gun shot wounds.

Police say the investigation is still open and active, but as police try to piece together what happened, it's possible they already have all the pieces infront of them.

Someone in this neighborhood called 9111 just about a quarter after nine Tuesday morning.

Joel DeSpain, spokesperson for the madison police, said, "it was an anonymous call and the people informed us we should come to this and look for this vehicle."

When police arrived, they found a man and a child over the age of ten in this black SUV.

Both had life-threatening gun shot wounds and were taken to the hospital.

DeSpain said, "we believe the crime scene was fairly fresh at the time we arrived here."

As squad cars pulled up, residents here took notice.

One area resident said,  "just seeing a cop car like going sideways and I just I didn't know what it was and then I looked out my bedroom window and saw all the caution tape."

That's an unusual sight for this neighborhood.

She added, "I mean, there's a park right you know -- there's always famillies there. Yeah it was scary."  She adds,  "It's a pretty good neighborhood, nice people. I've never. I mean there's been vandalism and stuff before, but never murder before I don't think."

Police say the boy and his father were not from this neighborhood.

From the start of the investigation, police said they were not looking for any suspects in the crime.

DeSpain also said, "just trying to let people know in this general neighborhood there is no real risk to their safety because of what we found at Haen Family Park this morning."

27 News spoke with the Madison School District Tuesday afternoon and it is under the impression the child victim is not one of its students.

Also, the county says there have not been any Amber Alerts within the last couple of days.

The Dane County Coroner has identified the 12 year old boy who was found shot on Madison's west side.

He is Middleton resident Kyle Dutter.

According to the county coronor, the boy died from a gunshot wound inflicted by his father.

Police found the boy and his father in an SUV in front of Haen Family Park on Tree Lane after nine o'clock Tuesday morning.

The two had life threatening gun shot wounds and were taken to a local hospital.

After the boy had died, police said they believed the father's wounds are self-inflicted.

The man whom Madison police say shot his 12-year-old son before shooting himself was a financially troubled mortgage broker.

Police say 36-year-old Ryan Dutter remains in the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Records show his father filed for bankruptcy last fall.
