Madison (WKOW) -- Every two years or so, more than a thousand men and women apply for a few, coveted jobs as Madison firefighters.
Those who dream of wearing the uniform have until next month to apply for next year's class.
Earning your boots and badge is an almost year-long, competitive process of interviewing and testing mental and physical abilities.
If applicants can outlast the competition, the applicant pool is narrowed to a few hundred.
Then it's up the fire chief and police and fire commission to choose Group 30.
The City of Madison will accept applications for Fire Recruit Group 30 through December 5th.
Applicants must be at least 18-years-old, U.S. citizens and have a high school diploma.
