UW System to cut travel, review unpopular programs

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- President Kevin Reilly says the University of Wisconsin System will reduce employee travel and look for other ways to help balance the state budget.

Reilly says he's ordered chancellors who lead the state's 13 four-year universities to personally approve all out-of-state travel funded by tuition and tax money.

He says only essential trips should be approved and they should look closely at trips involving multiple employees.

In addition, Reilly says he's asked campus provosts to review academic programs that have few students and consider how they might be realigned to save money.

He says he's also forming a task force to look into offering a three-year baccalaureate program at certain campuses.
