Madison (WKOW) -- from UW Madison: Sophomore defenseman Ryan McDonagh was named to the 22-player roster for the 2009 U.S. National Junior Team.
The squad will compete at the 2009 International Ice Hockey Federation World Under-20 Championship.
The 2009 IIHF World Junior Championship, as it is also known, takes place Dec. 26-Jan. 5 in Ottawa, Ontario.
The 12th overall pick in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft by the Montreal Canadians, McDonagh makes his first appearance in the tournament.
A member of the 2008 WCHA All-Rookie Team, McDonagh has four goals and eight points through 16 games played for Wisconsin this season.
Possibly joining McDonagh in Ottawa are two other Badger defensemen - Brendan Smith and Cody Goloubef.
Both Badger blue liners were part of the 38-member invite list to Team Canada's tryout camp released on Wednesday.
The selection camp runs Dec. 11-15 in Ottawa, Ontario and Gatineau, Quebec.
They make up half of the NCAA players invited to the camp.
