Madison (WKOW) -- from Madison PD: Wednesday evening, the Madison Police were notified of a possible home burglary in progress.
Officers responded to a home on the 600 block of West Shore Drive.
The homeowner said as she approached her home a short time earlier, she saw her basement lights turn off and thought an intruder was inside.
She ran to a nearby business to call 911.
When she returned home, she saw a man walking away from her back door.
The victim caught up with the man, and tried talking to him.
He asked her for money, but she inquired if he had just been in the house.
He told her she had the wrong guy and ran away.
The woman found jewelry and small electronics were missing from her home.
A neighbor said he encountered a man - matching the possible perpetrator's description - near the woman's home prior to the burglary.
He said the man seemed uncomfortable and asked for directions to Badger Road.
The neighbor told him how to get there, but says the man he failed to walk in the given direction.
Police say the suspect is a black man, roughly 5'9" and 25-40 years old, with a medium build, and wearing dark clothing.
The victim thought his eyes looked "farther apart" than most people's eyes.
