MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- A Democrat from Madison will lead the state Assembly committee in charge of proposals dealing with the environment and natural resources.
Rep. Spencer Black will chair the committee starting next year. He also served as chair the last time Democrats held the majority in the Assembly between 1986 and 1994.
Black was selected by incoming Speaker Mike Sheridan of Janesville.
Sheridan says Black was a champion for the environment during his previous stint leading the committee.
Black says his priorities will be improving water quality in lakes, rivers and streams and addressing global warming. Black is a 24-year veteran of the Assembly.
