SPRING GREEN (WKOW) -- The village of Spring Green has a brand new fire station. A flag raising ceremony Saturday morning marked its grand opening. Officials said the old facility was too small to house all emergency vehicles and equipment on hand.
Now the new fire house meets all the health and saftey requirements, as well as offering a home away from home for the volunteers. Amenities include relaxation areas, showers, and a kitchen.
Village president Greg Prem said after all the efforts volunteers put into helping residents during the June floods, they deserved a new building.
"As you utilize this facility, I want you to be proud, but I also want you to never forget how proud we are of you," he told a crowd during Saturday's ceremony.
Outside, the new fire department has additional parking, outdooor training grounds, and a future landing zone for UW Hospital's MedFlight.
The entire cost of the project totaled about $2.6 million.
