Madison (WKOW) -- The accused killer of Madison musician Joel Marino pleaded guilty in court Monday morning.
Adam Peterson, a former UW-Madison student, was charged with first degree intentional homicide.
Police say Peterson stabbed Marino inside his home as part of a robbery attempt, but Marino died in an alley on his way to the hospital.
Peterson was arrested in June at his home in Minnesota.
His attorney, Dennis Burke, says his client is suffering from mental illness but was able to tell right from wrong when he stabbed Joel Marino to death in his home in January.
Peterson faces a mandatory life sentence when he is sentenced by Judge James Martin in the next 60 to 90 days. The maximum sentence would be life without parole.
