27 Storm Track Meteorologist Laurie Mercurio has always been interested in weather; even becoming a broadcast meteorologist occurred to her at an early age. During her sophomore year of high school, she memorized Edgar Allen Poe's "Cask of Amontillado" (in its entirety!) and recited it in front of her English Literature class for extra credit (which took about 25 minutes). The English Lit. teacher referred Laurie to the Speech Team coach, and the rest is history...
Laurie Mercurio's accurate weather forecasts can be seen on 27 News weekends. Her forecasts can also be heard on local radio stations.
In 2011, 2012 and 2013, Laurie's forecasts were rated MOST ACCURATE in Southern Wisconsin by WeatheRate, an independent weather forecast verification company.
Laurie has been working in Madison since May of 2003. Prior to Madison, she worked at WAOW-TV in Wausau, Wisconsin as the morning meteorologist and KQ2 TV in St. Joseph, Missouri as the weekend meteorologist and weekday reporter.
Laurie is originally from southwestern Illinois, just outside of St. Louis. She graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in Meteorology and an emphasis in Broadcast Journalism. She holds the American Meteorological Society's Television Seal of Approval.
Laurie loves spending time with her husband, daughter Madison and son Owen. She also enjoys traveling, gardening, playing tennis and baking.
