Nonprofit struggling to save dog

Madison (WKOW) -- A local non-profit group that helps train dogs for the visually impaired is struggling after one dog needed emergency surgery.

7-month-old Echo is being trained by a puppy-raiser right now through the organization called Occupaws.

His caretaker pays for all the costs including vet bills while they help foster him.

But Echo chewed up a toy, swallowed the squeaker and needed emergency surgery - surgery that far exceeds the expectations of a puppy raiser.

Nicole Meadowcroft, president of Occupaws, said "we are lookinag at up to 12 hundred dollars with his post op care...we need help to pay this bill."

After Echo is done with his puppy raiser he will go on to a specilized trainer, before finding his owner and becoming a guide dog.
