JANESVILLE, Wis. (AP) -- A Janesville man accused of buying drugs instead of getting help for his injured son has pleaded guilty in the child's death.
Thirty-five-year-old Charles Rivers entered the plea to child neglect resulting in death during an appearance in Rock County Circuit Court Wednesday.
A charge of obstructing an officer was dismissed as part of a plea agreement.
Rivers and his girlfriend are accused of buying drugs for his heroin addiction after his 14-month-old son, Israel Gordon, was injured in a bathtub accident in December 2007.
The boy later died of his injuries.
Rivers' girlfriend, April Peabody, was previously sentenced to 18 months probation for misdemeanor child neglect.
