Matt and Shelly Manser collected basketballs on Saturday donated by the Middleton and Janesville Craig basketball teams.
MIDDLETON (WKOW) -- A somber tribute took place before tipoff of Saturday's Middleton-Janesville Craig basketball game. It was to honor Kyle Dutter, the boy killed last month in a murder-suicide by his father Ryan Dutter.
Matt Manser was a good friend of Kyle's. Since Kyle Dutter's death, Matt has been collecting balls for charities to give to kids.
Before the game in Middleton, the two teams donated a combined 25 basketballs to Manser's drive.
"This has been very important to us because this has helped Matt heal," said his mother Shelly Mander. "This is a hard time of the year to have to deal with something so tragic that happened to his friend, and so it has helped him heal, and it has helped so many other kids, especially with the economy the way it is."
The Manser family said Kyle Dutter loved balls of all types. That's why they started this drive. The family is setting up a bowl-a-thon in Dutter's memory in January.
