GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- The Hunt for the Hungry organization says donations of venison are down 37 percent from last year.
The organization collected 1,350 deer as of last week, about 800 less than last year's total.
Statewide, meat processors participating in the donation program say Wisconsin hunters have given more than 6,500 deer to help feed the hungry this season.
The state Department of Natural Resources has reported the deer gun harvest dropped by 20 percent, a 15-year low.
Hunt for the Hungry encourages hunters to donate excess deer and wild game meat.
It provides the meat to 25 food pantries in 11 northeast Wisconsin counties.
