MADISON (WKOW) -- City of Madison Regional Hazmat was called to a chemical emergency at the Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District plant Monday morning.
The plant's assistant chief engineer, Mike Simon, says two chemicals were mistakenly mixed together creating a possible chlorine release.
Subsequent reports say a semi tanker truck was unloading sodium hypochloride into a storage tank on the premises and the driver had mistakenly hooked up the wrong tank and inadvertentnly mixed chemical with ferrous chloride resulting in a yellowish gas cloud.
The area was evacuated and two people were hospitalized with minor injuries.
Investigators say that because of high wind in the area, the gas was disappated quickly and nobody was at risk.
