Vigil held to pray for end of violence in Middle East

Posted:
MONONA (WKOW) -- Prayers for peace in the Middle East are coming from all over the world, including our area.

A vigil was held Tuesday night St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Monona.

The service was non-political; people here say they're just hoping for an end to violence between Israel and the Palestinians in Gaza.

For some, like Pastor Nick Utphall it's personal, because he has traveled to the region before.

"I think things like we did here tonight, prayers, help people on the other side of the planet too."

Utphall says their former pastor, and current Lutheran Bishop, is on a mission in Gaza right now along with 75 other people.

The trip was in the works for two years. Some cancelled, but many still went, despite the violence.
