The 24th annual Fishing Expo is at the Alliant Energy Center this weekend. Organizers expect to see twenty thousand people. That's four thousand more people than last year.
Chuck Rolfsmeyer, the event director, said fishing is a low-cost source of entertainment, and that's probably why it's attracting so much interest this year.
Rolfsmeyer also explained the event is starting to focus more on attracting young people and families to the sport of fishing.
"So what we are hoping is... people are going to get back to family values and get involved in taking the family to boating and fishing and camping. And states are probably one of the best places for all of these things," he said.
All money raised at the event is donated to various fishing and environmental programs around the state.
