MADISON (WKOW) -- Madison's Oscar Mayer plant, a landmark on the east side for nearly 100 years, closed in 2017.
Video from the 27 News archives shows a tour of the plant in 1959.
Early in 2020, the city of Madison released a draft of the plan to redevelop the area around the former plant.
The Oscar Mayer Special Area Plan Open House is planned for 6 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 30, 2020 at 910 Oscar at OM Station (910 Oscar Avenue).
The Special Area Plan incorporates a variety of new housing options, employment opportunities, open space and recreational options -- all integrated with an enhanced transit system, bicycle and pedestrian facilities and a more connected street network.
Reich Brothers, a commercial development company, bought the Oscar Mayer site from The Kraft Heinz Co. and has leased parts of the building to local companies.
