MADISON (WKOW) -- Movers have been working on a massive project for a few days now, relocating the Burke Lutheran Church in Madison.
The team started moving the 121-year-old building on Friday.
They moved it about a third of the way to its final destination on Saturday after a few delays.
The church on Portage Road is moving about 300 yards to build a new office and education wing without tearing down any of its history.
"Probably 30 years ago we started talking about remodeling and putting on an addition and whatnot. But the parking was an issue because we're surrounded by the cemetery, so we started talking about building a new building over there, but it never got any support because the older folks like the old building," said Bruce Boseben, treasurer of the congregation.
Church leaders say they hope to finish the move this week. They're aiming for December services.
