State takes over Middleton High School nude photo investigation

UPDATE (WKOW) -- The Wisconsin Department of Justice is taking over an investigation into the sharing of nude pictures of underage students by Middleton high schoolers.

Middleton Police confirmed to 27 News the DOJ would take the lead on the investigation. They encourage anyone impacted to contact the school resource officer at (608) 829-9665 and the call would be routed to appropriate investigators.

Earlier in the day, the Middleton Cross Plains Area School District sent an email to parents letting them know about the investigation.

"We have been and will continue to cooperate with Middleton Police as they continue their investigation. We have also been working tirelessly to support our students who have been impacted by the investigation.

We know this has been a very emotional week for our students so please encourage your child to seek out our student services staff if they need additional support."

The Middleton Cross Plains Area School District is encouraging people to contact police if they know anything.


MIDDLETON (WKOW) -- Middleton police are investigating whether high school students are sharing nude pictures of other pupils under the age of 18.

Middleton police said they were notified of the possible picture sharing Tuesday, according to Police Captain Jeremy Geiszler.

"This is an ongoing investigation and no arrests have been made at this time," Geiszler wrote in a release.
