.Multiple thunderstorms have led to localized, brief flooding in
southern Wisconsin.

...FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL MIDNIGHT CDT TONIGHT...

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.

* WHERE...A portion of south central Wisconsin, including the
following counties, Dane, Green, Iowa, Lafayette and Rock.

* WHEN...Until midnight CDT.

* IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 855 PM CDT, trained weather spotters reported heavy rain
in the advisory area due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is
ongoing or expected to begin shortly. Between 1 and 2 inches
of rain have fallen.
- Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are expected
over the area. This additional rain will result in minor
flooding.
- Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Janesville, Beloit, Evansville, Dodgeville, Brodhead, Mineral
Point, New Glarus, Clinton, Orfordville, Monticello, Albany,
Belmont, Blanchardville, Footville, Newark, Magnolia, Dayton,
Tiffany, Linden and Waldwick.

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

...HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM NOON TO 8 PM CDT
TUESDAY...

* WHAT...Heat index values up to 105 expected.

* WHERE...Portions of south central and southeast Wisconsin.

* WHEN...From noon to 8 PM CDT Tuesday.

* IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat
illnesses to occur.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out
of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young
children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles
under any circumstances.

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When
possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat
stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when
possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational
Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent
rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone
overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.
Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.

DHS reports 1,731 new COVID-19 cases in Wisconsin

MADISON (WKOW) — 1,731 new COVID-19 cases were reported Thursday in Wisconsin, according to the latest numbers from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services.

The seven-day average of COVID-19 cases in Wisconsin is at 1,419, according to the latest numbers from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services.

DHS also reports six new COVID-19 deaths, bringing the seven-day average to three per day.

Cases and deaths for each day are reported by DHS here.

As of Wednesday afternoon, 388 COVID-19 patients were being treated in Wisconsin hospitals. Of those, 59 are in the ICU, according to the Wisconsin Hospital Association. This data is updated daily at 3:30 p.m.

The Department of Health Services dashboard also shows the seven-day average of new confirmed cases to be 1,419 and the seven-day average of new probable cases to be 179. (CHART). The seven-day average for percent positive by test is 11.6%

According to the CDC as of June 16, all counties in the 27 News viewing area have low COVID-19 community transmission rates except Iowa and Dane, which have medium COVID-19 community transmission rates. The CDC updates these classifications daily here.

As of Thursday afternoon, a total of 9,564,277 vaccines have been administered throughout Wisconsin. Of those, 2,057,521 are booster shots for vaccinated people.

So far, 64.5 percent of Wisconsinites have gotten at least one dose of the vaccine, and 61.4 percent of the state has completed the vaccine series.

Vaccination numbers can change on a rolling basis as the state gets more data each day.

DHS has a county-level dashboard to assess the COVID-19 activity level in counties and Healthcare Emergency Readiness Coalition regions that measure what DHS calls the burden in each county. View the dashboard HERE.

The new strain of the coronavirus causes COVID-19. Symptoms include cough, fever and shortness of breath. A full list of symptoms is available on the Centers for Disease Control website.

In severe cases, pneumonia can develop. Those most at risk include the elderly, people with heart or lung disease as well as anyone at greater risk of infection.

For most, the virus is mild, presenting similarly to a common cold or the flu.

Anyone who thinks they may have the disease should call ahead to a hospital or clinic before going in for a diagnosis. Doing so gives the staff time to take the proper precautions so the virus does not spread.

Those needing emergency medical services should continue to use 911.
