Garden centers busy with more home projects during pandemic

530 CROWDED NURSERIES

OREGON (WKOW) -- With the beautiful weekend, tons of people were out supporting local businesses while working on their gardens.

Kopke's Greenhouse in Oregon says its business has been booming recently -- in part because of the good weather, but also because people are spending more time at home.

They say vegetable purchases especially have been more than they expected.

"That seems to be a big thing this year is vegetable gardening. We've been selling out of just about every kind of vegetable plant we've had. We're already into our second crop of veggies that we usually don't get into until after Mother's Day, we're already there," said Josh Smith, VP and Co-Owner of Kopke's Greenhouse.

The nursery is taking a number of precautions to help with social distancing, like wiping down surfaces frequently, spraying down carts and handing out free pairs of gloves to shoppers.
